GlueX TOF Meeting, March 29, 2012
Minutes

    Present:
      * FSU: Sasha Ostrovidov
      * JLab: Eugene Chudakov, Chuck Hutton, Mark Ito (chair), Tim
        Whitlatch

Contract Status

    Mark reported that the FSU proposal was received by Procurement. A
    technical review committee has been formed:
      * Dan Carman
      * Mark Ito
      * Elton Smith
      * Beni Zihlmann

    We should be getting materials from Procurement this afternoon.

PMT Purchase

    Hamamatsu has received the RFP from Procurement and submitted a set of
    questions. Mark sent answers back to Procurement.

Calibration and Alignment

    Mark raised the collaboration-wide effort to come up with a calibration
    plan for each detector subsystem. We need to start work on this for the
    TOF soon.

Technical Design Report Contribution

    Mark mentioned the effort to write an up-to-date [22]Technical Design
    Report for GlueX. He is hoping that Paul will be able to take a look at
    the TOF section.

Mechanical Design

    Chuck showed us [23]updated drawings of the support structure. He added
    details of the steel tube positioning scheme. These changes forced the
    collar to attach to the tube farther out-board. This would make tube
    replacement somewhat more complicated.

    Eugene supported Elton's suggestion that the C-channel "clamp" miss the
    scintillator and hold the counters by the light guides only.

    We talked about an alternate scheme where the light guides are
    supported near their midpoint, using the bars that currently connect
    the C-channels on the out-board edge. This scheme is complicated by the
    angle of the light guides at that position. It also does less to ensure
    alignment of the scintillator, counter-to-counter. It avoids having the
    "clamp" holding all the counters with the clamping pressure coming only
    at the ends of the C-channels. Tim and Chuck will explore this options
    further.
