GlueX TOF Meeting, February 14, 2013
Minutes
Present:
* FSU: Paul Eugenio, Sasha Ostrovidov
* JLab: Chuck Hutton, Mark Ito (chair), Tim Whitlatch, Beni Zihlmann
Mini-TOF Status
There was a minor problem with the construction drawings for the frame
at FSU: they assumed counters 255 cm long (an old dimension) when the
actual dimension is 254. This was easily remedied by slotting the
attachments holes for the appropriate frame parts. The drawings at
JLab.
There was a slight interference with the clamps and the curved part of
the light guide. FSU simply trimmed an edge of the the clamp to
proceed. This change also needs to be fed back into the drawings at
JLab.
Since the end of the scintillators, while being glued, are almost 10
feet above the floor, there is a scaffolding being built next to the
gluing fixture to allow access for work. Some additional design effort
is going into personal safety while mounting the scaffold as well as
general mechanical stability.
An old scintillator bar, from previous prototypes, has been cut up to
serve as blanks for the two additional half-length counters needed to
complete the mechanical assembly, opposite the actual first-article
modules. They will be wrapped. A decision on whether to instrument them
has not been made.
Construction Status
Four modules are glued and ready for wrapping. More will be glued
today. Wrapping will start tomorrow.
Maurizio Bertoli, the construction manager for this project, has
started work at FSU.
PMT Testing
All 194 PMTs have have gone through gain testing. All are good. There
are few that Sasha would like to re-measure so the latest standard
procedure can be applied to them.
Scintillator Testing
Sasha reported that the results presented last time had a labeling
error, and that the modules with the reduced attenuation length were
the two half-length modules, contrary to expectations. The issue is
being investigated. Beni agreed to consult on this matter.
Readiness Review
The readiness review is scheduled for Friday, March 8. Beni, Chuck, and
Bruce Lenzer will be traveling to FSU.
Contract
Paul and Mark have been discussing the system for invoicing and
progress reporting now that contract work had started. The procedure
needs to be systematized a bit.
