Review minutes from the meeting on September 20
We went over the minutes
<https://halldweb.jlab.org/wiki/index.php/GlueX_Start_Counter_Meeting,_September_20,_2018#Minutes>.
Regarding the simulations that Sean had announced last time, Mahmoud
used them in his presentation at the last collaboration meeting in the
section on comparison between data and Monte Carlo.
Calibration and Efficiency
Mahmoud has checked the start counter time resolution for run 50799 of
the current run period. The resolution is nominal at around 300 ps.
Work Packages
We reviewed the PID section of the Work Packages
<https://halldweb.jlab.org/wiki-private/index.php/2018_Work_Packages>
wiki page.
* As mentioned at the last TOF meeting, there still is a place for the
detector working groups to develop raw quantities, such as timing
information, that can be used to form higher level quantities used
for particle identification.
* There are issues remaining in this working group.
o Sean: quantifying detector response as a function of location in
phase space and capturing those measurements in the simulation
and reconstruction.
o Werner: transmission of Mahmoud's expertise in calibration and
performance measurement to new students.
o Geometrical alignment studies.
o Refinement of comparisons between simulation and data.
* Need for a new particle identification working group.
o Effort is needed to formalize how we combine PID info from
various detector systems on a collaboration-wide basis.
o Mark: this effort could be folded into a work package of the
software working group.
o Thomas: when bringing new students into say π/K ID efficiency
and fake rates, existing detector working groups not
appropriate. The discussion there is much lower level.
o Werner: there are three new grad students from FIU, candidates
for getting plugged in
o Sean: a dedicated meeting of a new group would be best to
address this issue.
o Werner: it would be best for a JLab person to convene a new
working group. That provides centrality, collaboration-wise, and
continuity.
o Thomas and Mark will discuss working-group-convening
responsibilities.
NIM Paper
Eric Pooser has produced a new draft incorporating comments from Beni
and Elton Smith. This is good progress. Mark will distribute the draft
to those who commented on the previous draft. This draft has been
shortened; more edits are probably needed.
