Dear beamline friends,
I followed up our discussion during the last tagger
meeting regarding 'microstrip' detector properties for
the two magnets which might be available for loan at
SLAC and BNL, and prepared a few 'simple' plots.
You can find the plots in the appendix of the updated note:
http://www.jlab.org/~somov/pair_spectrometer/ps_micro_note.pdf
In brief, the energy resolution of the SLAC magnet is
about a factor of two worse than that for the BNL magnet.
The detector width is accordingly smaller; to cover the
energy range between 3 GeV and 6 GeV the detectors should
be about 10 cm wide for the 2 m long vacuum chamber.
It would probably be difficult to instrument the SLAC
magnet with the symmetric-energy scintillator counters
(just in case we decide to do it...)
I am going through the geant bg simulation of the small
magnet right now.
Cheers,
Sascha
