Matt and all,
For anyone who is interested in testing the sensitivity of their analysis
to the presence of accidentals, here is a tool you can run over your
hdgeant4 simulation output prior to mcsmear that suppresses true tags by a
user-specified fraction without affecting the accidentals. If you are doing
accidentals subtraction correctly, your acceptance should drop by exactly
the fraction you supply in the -f argument.
$ ./untag.py -h
Usage: untag.py [-f <removed_fraction>] [-o <output_file.hddm>]
<input_file1.hddm> [<input_file2.hddm> ...]
where <removed_fraction> is a floating point number between 0 and 1
(default)
<output_file.hddm> defaults to
<input_file1>_untag_<removed_faction>.hddm
