GlueX Target Meeting, March 10, 2011
Minutes

    Present:
      * JLab: Mark Ito (chair), Chris Keith, Tim Whitlatch, Elliott Wolin
      * UMass: Rory Miskimen


MOU Status

    The last version of the MOU was stopped because it contained language
    about solid targets which were not in the baseline project plan. With
    the latest change request, solid targets appear as an item. We are
    nearly ready to send a version through the review process again. It
    will not be significantly different from what we had before.

New Target Material

    Rory was recently working at Mainz on a low density carbon target made
    of graphite foam. It may be appropriate for Hall D commissioning. Its
    density is 0.55 gm/cc and will minimize the amount of material
    wide-angle particles see as they emerge from the target. The material
    was developed at Oak Ridge and is sold by a company in Texas, [26]Poco
    Graphite.

Schedule

    Tim reported some details of the latest change to the Project as it
    affects the target. There is no money budgeted for FY11. We plan to
    purchase the refrigerator early in FY12 (October 2011) and start
    construction early next year.

Future Meetings

    Tim would like to focus more attention on detailed design at future
    target meetings. Mark and Tim will announce possible changes to the
    meeting structure soon.
