Dear GlueX Collaborators,

Please find below two abstracts I might submit to VCI (Vienna Conference
on Instrumentation). Your comments are more than welcome. The deadline is
close, I would like to submit before the end of the week. Thank you.

I/ Title: The GlueX Experiment.

The GlueX experiment id part of Jefferson Lab's 12 GeV upgrade and will
run in a new contructed Hall-D. One of the main goals of this experiment
is to map out the exotic hybrid meson spectra.

GlueX will use a 9~$GeV$ tagged polarized photon beam
impinging on a liquid hydrogen target at high luminosity.
In order to reconstruct hybrid mesons, a superb acceptance
and momentum resolution of charged and neutral (good calorimetry)
particles is needed as many of them are expected in the final state.
Also, the detector has to be able to handle high luminosity and needs
good charged particle identification. GlueX is building a spectrometer
to fulfill these tasks. From the inside out it has a straw tube central
drift chamber around the target cell, a barrel calorimeter
which is being read out by PMTs and SiPMs. These detectors
are inside a 2.24$~T$ solenoid. In the forward direction
there is a Time-of-Flight wall and a forward calorimeter.

We plan to start running in 2014 and we are in the exciting stage of
building the experimental hall and the detectors. The current status
and test results of the experiment and its detectors will be presented.

II/ Title: The GlueX Central Drift Chamber.

The GlueX Central Drift Chamber (CDC) is a cylindric detector
located close to a target cell as a part of the GlueX
spectrometer in Hall-D at Jefferson Lab. It is designed to track
charged particles originating from a 9~$GeV$ polarized photon
beam impinging on a liquid hydrogen target. One of the main goals
of the GlueX experiment is to map out the exotic hybrid meson
spectra.

The CDC has to be able to track charged particles with relative
large polar angles (6-165\textdegree) in a solenoid magnetic
field of 2.24~$T$. Also, this detector has to perform particle
identification: to separate pions, kaons, and protons in a momentum
range up to 450~$MeV/c$.

To fulfill these tasks the GlueX collaboration opted for a straw
tube chamber because this option minimizes the material in the
tracking region. The straw tubes will be 1.5~$m$ long and the
chamber will consist of 28 layers (12 axial + 16 stereo) or 3500
straws. The current status of this detector and test results
obtained with prototypes will be presented.

Cheers,
 	Yves
