Dear Collaborators,
The latest news on the Spring run is as follows: The accelerator is still recovering from the power outage
that knocked out both CHL’s. Both are required to run 12GeV beam, but 6GeV beam can be delivered if
only one is in operation. The repairs on one of them are expected to be completed and the pump down started
on Wed. April 8th. The other will take longer to repair so the current plan is based on running a 6GeV program
this Spring. Regarding shifts in Hall-D this means that:
ALL HALL-D SHIFTS ARE CANCELLED UNTIL DAY SHIFT ON THURSDAY APRIL 9th.
Management is considering a few options at the moment, including extending the run past May 4th, but that
is looking very unlikely given the cost of doing so (power and numerous contracts). The most likely scenario
at this point is that we will get about 2 weeks of usable 5.5GeV beam. The run plan is being adjusted to take
full advantage of that and will be discussed further at the next Run Coordinator meeting on Friday at 8:45am.
We will keep close contact with the accelerator folks and continue to update you with any news. Particularly
if there is any change to the shift schedule since it may affect travel plans.
Regards,
-David Lawrence (acting Run Coordinator)
