Dear collaborators,
As you are all are probably aware, yesterday halld experienced two solenoid dumps and overnight the accelerator experienced many hardware failures including both horizontal and vertical separators and, to quote the PD, "a ton of magnets". As such, the downtime provided Tim, and crew, time to enter the hall to investigate the solenoid power supply (the main contact was shown as the first to go in both cases). Tim estimates the time it takes to complete repairs to the main contact circuitry will take about 2-2.5 hours; this is not guaranteed to solve the problems. While this work was ongoing the accelerator became able to begin sending beam to halld again. The decision was made to back out of the hall, leaving the repairs on the "to-do" list. By about 1pm the accelerator began sending tune beam to halld. The accelerator seem to have experienced more PSS faults and are struggling to restore beam again. The current plan is to establish beam to halld and continue our setup and configuration program, with an eye to utilizing planned downtime (still scheduled for Tuesday) to complete repairs to the solenoid PS. With all of this, I don't think a meeting tomorrow (Sunday) makes a lot of sense.
I will keep the collaboration posted on any developments and see everyone at 8:45am Monday for our standard meeting.
Thanks,
Thomas Britton
