Job description:
The Physics Department at Brookhaven National Laboratory has an opening
for an Assistant Physicist to participate in EIC related efforts.

Position Summary:
We are seeking a talented individual to take an active role in advancing
the physics case for an EIC and conducting simulation of the relevant
processes to optimize detector concepts and designs. The candidate is
expected to work closely with theorists and the broader QCD community to
explore how the scientific program at an EIC can be further enriched and
how data from an EIC can help advance our understanding of matter. The
candidate has the opportunity to work, in a fraction of his time, in
ongoing RHIC projects. As the EIC program proceeds, the design and
optimization of an EIC detector will move center stage and the selected
candidate will take a leading role in this process.

While the work will be conducted within BNL’s EIC working group, the
person selected will also work closely with the members of the Center
for Frontiers in Nuclear Science (CFNS), setup jointly between Stony
Brook University and BNL, with members of EIC related Laboratory
Directed Research and Development (LDRD) projects at BNL, as well as
world-wide collaborators from the EIC User Group. We are seeking a
talented individual to take an active role in this project. Experience
in experimental particle and high-energy nuclear physics as well as
solid knowledge in jet finding techniques, computing and process
modeling are highly desirable.

The selected candidate will take an active role in studies related to a
future EIC. Focus is on exploring new measurements (e.g. jets physics,
Wigner function, fragmentation and E-loss in e+A) to widen the physics
program of an EIC. He/she will also perform detector-related studies to
verify that key measurements can be accomplished with the required
precision at a future EIC detector. The candidate is expected to publish
the obtained results and present his findings in workshops and
conferences. As the EIC project proceeds the candidate will get involved
in the preparation of conceptual/technical design reports for EIC detectors.

Position Requirements: Ph.D. in experimental nuclear or particle
physics, a strong background in data analysis, programming (C++, ROOT,
and GEANT preferred), and good communication skills to collaborate with
a broad international EIC community. Candidates with experiences in DIS,
jet physics, and RHIC physics (spin or/and heavy-ion physics) is preferred.

Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL) is an equal opportunity employer
committed to ensuring that all qualified applicants receive
consideration for employment and will not be discriminated against on
the basis of race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender
identity, national origin, age, status as a veteran, disability or any
other federal, state or local protected class.

We invite you to consider Brookhaven National Laboratory for employment.
