Dear collaborators/colleagues/friends,

Hall-D RC report for Tuesday 30th of November, 2021 (last report from me, no more spam)

  *   Accelerator
     * it looks like the accelerator is a bit tired and need tomorrow's rest since it has been a irregular day with some long periods of beam down (day shift beam strips --> https://logbooks.jlab.org/entry/3953268). Major incidents:
        *   Injector Orbit work ~1h down --> https://logbooks.jlab.org/entry/3953176
        *   problem with 1L15 ~1h down --> https://logbooks.jlab.org/entry/3953237
        *
  *   Experiment/Hall
     * Also the hall needs some rest since it has started to get more alarms/warnings than the previous days
        * Since the start production on Carbon the total number of triggers (today at 01:00) is ~14.8 B.
     * For some reason unknown to me, the not under use DIRC has jumped the alarm --> https://logbooks.jlab.org/entry/3952991
     * Alexandre addressed an increase of radiation in all monitors --> https://logbooks.jlab.org/entry/3953040
     * Very close in time, Lubomir and Torry reported that the coherent peak with 45/135 PERP was unstable --> https://logbooks.jlab.org/entry/3953124 and https://logbooks.jlab.org/entry/3953132
        * since I noticed for a couple of days that 45/135 PERP was behind of several issues reported, I consulted Alexandre about that possibility. Comparing the jump in the edge with the increase of rates there is a perfect match --> https://logbooks.jlab.org/entry/3953446
        * Sasha has suggested that after tomorrow's beam recovery and running the harp scans this issue should disappear.
        * the instability in the coherent peak, is explained of how the peak is estimated. In normal circumstances, the peak is estimated in the microscope, but now, the peak is placed half way tagger/microscope, with the difference in granularity between both systems, the algorithm finds some issues to fix the position. Apparently, this is more notable with 45/135 PERP.
     * TAGRPLC alarm indicating as offline --> https://logbooks.jlab.org/entry/3953336
        * Such alarm is no critical for our measurements. Hovannes talked with Nick and tomorrow, after Tagger hall survey to work on it.
     * FCAL has started to lose communication (individual channels) often than before, but thanks to Malte instructions yesterday, our shift workers solve the issue immediately.
     * Once again -- > A friendly reminder to the Shift Worker to fill the spreadsheet with the data of the run --> https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/19QWkjAPEiSd2scvAllYvgvB_puxKjFiSlh3z6EBfFck/edit?usp=sharing
        * Perhaps you think it is a bit redundant since the RCDB is available, but it helps our students for fast cross checks of the runs.
     *
     *
  *   Run Plan (WEDNESDAY)
     * It is expected to start the RF recovery ~08:00.
     * The work booked tomorrow into the hall are:
        * Mark, Malte and Rebecca --> FCAL maintenance
        * Sasha and Vladimir --> work in the PS area
        * Nick and Scot --> work in Tagger hall
        *   Mark --> walkthrough (2 people booked)
     * Yesterday, just in advance, I summarize to Dave Hamlett (Radcon) what are our needs tomorrow (as was requested):
        * in general, for the Hall work expected, it is NOT necessary a full survey.
        * for the work in FCAL, it is NOT necessary any survey (thank you Mark for clarify it)
        * for the work around the pair spectrometer (PS), we NEED a survey around the PS beam pipe (where the PS setup is located).
        * for the walkthrough, we need a FULL survey in the Tagger Hall <-- please note that I asked for it before the PLC issue
        * Desirable, but NOT necessary, we would like to take some crystals from the hall, which naturally will need to be surveyed.
     * These will be the info to be shared tomorrow during the PD/RC meeting and trying to get the tagger hall ASAP
     *

THANKS:

  * it has been an honor and a privilege for me, as 'external' to the Hall D, have served as RC in the name of the SRC/CT experiment. I know that many people don't give much importance to the task, but after being RC at Hall A and B, I found this duty very instructive, but sometimes exhausting.
     * Thank you Sasha for your patience and time and dedication.
     * Thank you Alexandre for all your nice comments and explanations of all those details which escapes the non trained eye.
     * Many thanks for all the experts on call (or not), which patiently answer our phone calls (Malte, Hovannes, Beni).
     * Thank you to all the shift crews who handle the data acquisition perfectly and didn't call me very often (except for sugar 😄 ).

RC MEETING:

  * Let's reconvene tomorrow at the regular time (08:45). The connection information --> https://halldweb.jlab.org/wiki/index.php/Run_Coordination_Meetings:Fall2021

ANALYSIS MEETING:

  * The daily analysis meeting will be at 14:00, in person at F326. More info --> https://halldweb.jlab.org/wiki/index.php/Analysis_shift

Well, this is the last report but:

Please, if you think any info in this report is incomplete, inaccurate or even wrong, please do not hesitate to tell me to improve the skills of your humble RC 😉

Starting tomorrow, Holly will take as RC ~13:00

Thank you!!

-Carlos
