Summary of events since the previous Hall D Run Coordination meeting on Friday:
Experts spent most of the day on Friday trying to diagnose and resolve the issue with one magnet in the south linac (MZA8S03) which repeatedly gave an over-temperature fault since the maintenance day on Thursday. After struggling with the issue all day on Friday, the crew chief made the decision to send the support personnel home for the night at 11PM and resume the troubleshooting on Saturday morning. At 9:35AM this morning we received an update from the PD saying that the DC Power and Mag Test crews believe it to be an instrumentation issue. The magnet was cycled several times this morning with no trip, and MCC began working on restoring beam to the halls. At approximately 10:45AM, we received beam in Hall D and performed a new set of harp scans (results can be found here: https://logbooks.jlab.org/entry/4049338). However, shortly after completing the harp scans the accelerator was down due to an issue with a power supply in the north linac not holding HV. This downtime la!
sted for approximately 1.5hrs, and at about 1:20PM we were finally able to resume production running on the liquid Helium-4 target (first production run since the accelerator was shut down for the maintenance day on Thursday morning).
The plan is simply to continue taking production data throughout the remainder of the weekend and collect as many events as possible. There are currently no plans for another maintenance day next week, so we may discuss delaying the next set of empty target runs which were tentatively planned for Monday.
