Dear Colleagues,

Many of you know that the American Physical Society’s Division of Particles
and Fields is conducting a major study of opportunities for the high-energy
physics community ("Snowmass 2013" named after a similar exercise conducted
in 2001). Its goal is to develop the community’s long-term physics
aspirations and communicate these to the broader scientific community and
to the US government.

We are the conveners of the "New Light, Weakly-Coupled Particles" subgroup
within the Intensity Frontier group. We will again consider the physics
opportunities with axions, dark photons, chameleons, milli-charged
particles etc. We are writing those of you who have expressed an interest
in this physics in the past to tell you about our subgroup, encourage you
to participate, and ask for your input.

The first "Community Planning Meeting (CPM2012)" for this study will be *this
week at Fermilab, October 11-13, 2012* (call-in details for those unable to
attend in person are given below):

Our group will have a session *this Friday at 10am--11:30am* Central
Daylight Time. We will discuss what we want to achieve between now and the
conclusion of the study in a two-week "Community Summer Study" at the
University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, 7/29 - 8/10 2013:

We had a similar exercise last year that culminated in the Intensity
Frontier Workshop. However, we now need to make an updated physics case to
a much wider audience. It is anticipated that this long-term planning
process will trigger an independent process of review and prioritization
solicited by the funding agencies. So we again need to have a strong
showing to educate our peers and the funding agencies about our group's
physics goals. On Friday, we will discuss how to approach this. Your
input will be valuable.

Please let us know if you have any questions!

Best regards,

Rouven Essig, John Jaros, William Wester
