Dear HPS,

Everyone in HPS with an interest in how to expand the search for hidden sector photons is invited to join Working Group 1 of the New, Light Weakly Coupled Particles (IF5) subgroup of the Intensity Frontier: "Expanding the Search for Hidden Sector Photons at Electron Machines". It is time to make some WG1 plans for the NLWCP session at the upcoming IF Workshop at Argonne. Our NLWCP group webpage is here:
http://www.snowmass2013.org/tiki-index.php?page=New+Light%2C+Weakly+Coupled+particles

WG1 will explore new methods and discuss new ideas that can extend the search for hidden sector photons throughout the mass range 10-1000 MeV over the widest possible range of couplings. Present experiments are certainly exploring this parameter space, but limitations due to available luminosity, excessive backgrounds, and radiation damage leave much territory unexplored. Where should we be looking? How do we do better?

We'll need to prepare a whitepaper in time for submission to the NLWCP subgroup report, probably mid June. We'll discuss how to proceed at the Argonne meeting, so it will be very valuable to know ahead of time what each of you can contribute to this effort. This whitepaper will depend on your contributions.

Attached above is a straw man outline for our New Searches Whitepaper. Please have a look. And please do the following:

1. Let me know what you can contribute to this effort

2. Suggest changes or additions to the outline

I'll need to know this before the Argonne workshop, so please get me your input before April 22.

For those of you who won't be attending the workshop, we'll summarize our progress after the meeting and set up some forum so everyone can see everyone else's contribution.

PLEASE RESPOND!

Thanks,

John

p.s. Please forward this message to others you think might be interested. Thanks!
