Dear HPS,
Ken Livingston of Glasgow has requested membership in HPS. His letter is copied below.
Following procedures from our Bylaws, EC has approved Ken's application for general election. Since it will be
many months before the next Collaboration meeting, we will have a special email election which will
conclude on September 1, 2014.
Roughly a week before then, you will be asked to vote Y/N on Ken's
application. You are being provided this notice in keeping with our rules.
Email from Ken Livingston:
Case for membership.
I'm currently working closely with Andrea Celentano on the Slow controls for the LED flasher system. I'll be in Jlab from 1-12 Sept to complete that and ensure it is in place for HPS. I'm also PhD supervisor to Mark Anderson and Stefanie Lewis, who both worked in Genova on the development of that system.
I have some responsibility for Slow Controls for CLAS12, and would be eager to be involved in beamtimes in Hall-B as early as possibly in the 12GeV era for that purpose; HPS offers the opportunity to combine that with the participation in a "risk taking" proposal at the frontier of current research.
In addition to the current work on the LED system, I can participate in shift taking, and run coordination.
I've been working on Hall-B experiments for about 15 years and have lots of experience in slow controls, software, hardware, calibration and data analysis. I've also been involved in the supervision of many Jlab PhD students from Glasgow and Edinburgh (including Daria Sokhan and Bryan McKinnon). I will provide supervision and guidance to any Glasgow students who work on HPS.
For HPS,
John
Chair HPS EC
