Dear HPS,
There will be elections at the upcoming JLAB collaboration meeting, June 16-18.
We'll choose four new members for the HPS Presentations and Publications Committee,
two for the HPS Executive Committee, and vote on membership for one new collaborator.
The responsibilities of these committees are described in our Bylaws:
https://confluence.slac.stanford.edu/display/hpsg/HPS+Collaboration
Both committees will play an increasingly important role as HPS deals with technical,
physics, and publication issues as we begin taking data.
Thanks to the following who have agreed to stand for election to the PPC. One member of
the current PPC, Marzio De Napoli, just replaced Sarah Philips, so his term has just begun.
You will be asked to vote for four of the following:
Andrea Celentano
Rouven Essig
Matt Graham
Michel Guidal
Maurik Holtrop
Larry Weinstein
Thanks also to those who have agreed to stand for election to the EC. F-X and Takashi,
both present EC members, have completed their first two year term. You will be
asked to vote for two of the following:
F-X Girod
Matt Graham
Takashi Maruyama
In addition, one new physicist, Michel Garcon, has requested HPS membership. His request, which is
copied below, has been approved by the EC, so we will vote on making him a member of HPS.
Individuals can become members of the HPS Collaboration based on their commitment and contributeions to the HPS experiment.
Here are Michel's planned contributions to HPS:
" I started here with work on the refurbishing of ECAL crystals. I assist and supervise Holly and Kyle for the ungluing of the small APDs and of the old fiber connectors. Since this is a long process, I plan on taking a bigger share of the work after Feb. 26. I intend to participate in the following steps of the ECAL assembly and testing with the Orsay colleagues.
Stepan had mentioned needed work on tests and documentation for the ECAL trigger. I am ready to get involved (and take a share of responsibilities), but beforehand, I have to get up to speed on what is being done and what is left to be done. In a wider perspective, I think I could usefully follow and discuss some of the software developments (energy and position determinations, including associated corrections, edge effects, on-line monitoring, event display) with whoever is developing the corresponding parts of the code.
Ready to assist in the beamline installation if there is a lack of manpower, and more generally in the experiment installation wherever needed.
My presence on site will be limited by the travel funds available, but I can expect 2 or 3 trips of 2 or 3 weeks each. I would then take my share of shifts.
Overall, I would spend about 50% of my time on HPS between now and the end of October, probably more during installation time. Then 30% next year ?"
The HPS election will be held at the collaboration meeting on Wednesday, June 18. For those not able to attend the meeting,
an electronic ballot will be sent out in June.
Respectfully,
John
