Overcoming Barriers to Communication (updated AP-COM course)

Overcoming Barriers to Communication is a course created to assist employees to understand various barriers to communication.  Through this course, attendees will realize the impact of medium and delivery on communication, recognize potential barriers to effective communication and how this translates into everyday work interactions.  Participants will understand cultural differences (language and cultural context), gender stereotypes and unconscious bias, and how all these factors hinder good communication.  Participants will learn strategies and gain tools on how to become more effective communicators.

Safe Zone/LGBTQ+ Educational Session
The Safe Zone/LGBTQ+ Educational Session is an opportunity for everyone, including our LGBTQ+ colleagues, allies and all who are interested in learning. During this session, we will review LGBTQ+ core terminology, discuss our personal relations to LGBTQ+ subjects and engage each other on how we can become better allies and advocates for our LGBTQ+ colleagues. This session is voluntary and advanced notice of participation is not required.

Last week, Stuart sent an email about all the great "Welcome Back to the Lab" social events planned this month now that we are back on MEDCON 3 status.  Make sure you plan to attend!

JLab Employees (and More!) Tour, Thursday, April 7 from 8:30 a.m.-Noon, Advanced Registration Required (see below)
Now is your chance to get a first-hand guided look at our amazing facility, once again! The in-person tour will include stops at the SRF Test Lab, the CEBAF accelerator tunnel, and Experimental Halls C and D. The visit to each facility will be guided by subject-matter experts. Light refreshments will be provided for tour participants in the CEBAF Center Atrium beginning at 8:30 a.m. with the tour beginning at 9:30 a.m. Photos may be taken. All community members are welcome, but space is limited; additionally, your supervisor's approval and advance registration is required. Collaborate with Colleagues Morning Break, Thursday, April 14 from 9:30-11 a.m.
Reconnect with your colleagues as you grab some complementary morning beverages and pastries in the CEBAF Center atrium. All community members are welcome.

Ice Cream Social and Service Department Meet & Greet, Thursday, April 21 from 2-4 p.m.  Don't forget to stop by the DEI Table!
The JLab community is invited to attend an Ice Cream Social, served by lab leadership. I will kick off the event with a few words followed by personalized sundae service in the CEBAF Center atrium. The lab's service departments will man tables during the event to introduce themselves and speak about their services and JAG will host fun activities on the CEBAF Center patio. The event will also feature JLab branded giveaways and a raffle for prizes to those who participate.

Collaborate with Colleagues Afternoon Break, Thursday, April 28 from 2-4 p.m.
Finish your day connecting with fellow colleagues over a complementary afternoon snack and beverage the CEBAF Center atrium. All community members are welcome.
