Good morning JLab colleagues -

[Novermber is Native American Heritage Month]
Happy November! This month we celebrate Native American Heritage Month. November is Native American Heritage Month (NAHM), or as it is commonly referred to, American Indian and Alaska Native Heritage Month. The month is a time to celebrate rich and diverse cultures, traditions, and histories and to acknowledge the important contributions of Native people. NAHM is also an opportune time to educate the general public about tribes, to raise a general awareness about the unique challenges Native people have faced both historically and, in the present, and the ways in which tribal citizens have worked to conquer these challenges.

Did you know: The U.S. Department of Energy's Headquarters is located on the ancestral homeland of the Nacotchtank (pronunciation: nah-cahch-tank) people. The name of the Anacostia River is derived from this name.

You can view more information about these events, other holidays around the world, additional resources and all things DEIA here - DEIA Website<https://www.jlab.org/human_resources/diversity/culture>.

Update - We have added our definition of Accessibility to the DEIA website. As we continue to elevate our efforts to increase Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, Accessibility is now recognized as an important part of our goals to become a more inclusive organization. Below are JLab's definitions for Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Accessibility:

Diversity - Achieve and sustain a workforce composed of qualified people who proportionally represent the diverse populations that contribute to the advancement of science.
Equity - Achieve and maintain an organization where fair treatment, access, opportunity and advancement is guaranteed for all.
Inclusion - Achieve and uphold a professional, ethical, tolerant and respectful work environment in which everyone can contribute to the mission according to their talents.
Accessibility - Achieve and provide equitable access to facilities, information and communication technology, programs and services so that all people, including those with disabilities, can utilize and fully participate in.
Wishing you and your family a safe, healthy and Happy Thanksgiving. Thanks for being a DEI Champion!
