[Isotope-prod] Fwd: LERF and isotope production proposal

Dear Andrew,
Pre-meeting before the May 21 conversation with Marc and Ethan is a very good idea. I think that
we should have a one pager for ourselves as a guide which should help us give a coherent and
positive message. We have a good machine and a very capable team. Our earlier tests showed
us where we can improve. I think that we are in a very good position. Persistence will pay off.
Will Stuart participate in the LERF tour?
Thanks.

Everyone

We have a scheduled telephone conference with Marc Garland and Ethan Balkin on Monday, May 21 starting at 3 pm.

As you are all aware, there is an FOA due on June 15 and we need to decide whether we re-submit our previous proposal (we had no feedback on that) or whether we revamp it somewhat. I do not believe we have time to develop another isotope, and I am loathe to give up completely after the effort we have already invested.

In addition, Marc and Ethan have agreed to visit JLab and VCU on Tuesday June 12. They will arrive at JLab around 10:00 am, spend ~3 hours here and then leave for VCU to be there in the early afternoon.

I will set up a pre-meeting so we can prepare these important events.

Thanks

Andrew

Thanks, I've added this to Ethan and Marc's calendars for May 21st at 1:00 pm ET. Should I have them call your office (757-269-7396) directly or would you prefer a call-in number?

Thanks again!

Cassie
I will take the May 21st slot from 1-3pm.
The subject of the discussion is to determine what proposal Marc and Ethan would accept from us for the FOA, since we had no feedback from our last proposal.
Thanks.
Andrew

Andrew -

Yes, my understanding is that Marc and Ethan will visit JLAB first and then follow up to VCU. Who should I contact about arranging the visit at VCU- could we put together a rough agenda starting with JLAB at 10:00 am? This way we can plan on timing for the VCU visit in the afternoon.

Marc and Ethan are both out of the office on travel May 14-18. They are both available Monday, May 21st 1-3 pm ET. Would this be feasible?

Thanks!

Cassie

Sorry, typo. It should have been June 12 for the visit.

We would be happy to have Marc and Ethan visit on June 10. Will they have time to stop in Richmond on the way back to visit our collaborators at VCU?

Unfortunately, May 10 is not a good time for us for a telephone call. What is their availability the following week?

Thanks

Andrew

Apologies for the delay.

For the phone call, would May 10th at 4:00 pm ET be feasible for all involved?

For the visit, it looks like June 12th would work well for Marc and Ethan. Can you confirm this would work for JLAB? It would likely be a half day visit, starting around 10 am. If this works, I'll put this on their calendars.

Thanks!

Cassie

We would be happy to have Marc and Ethan visit in June. I have contacted our collaborators at VCU (Jamal Zweit and Sundaresan Gobalakrishnan) and they are also happy to be included in the visit.

There are a couple of things that might affect the visit.

First, the ONP Isotope Program has a new FOA LAB 18-1896 for which the application deadline is June 15, 2018, by 5:00 P.M. Eastern Standard Time. We would like to discuss with Marc and Ethan about our options and leave ourselves enough time to submit (or resubmit). Perhaps we could arrange a telephone conference fairly soon and not wait for the visit?

I will be away on vacation May 23 through June 10. Marc and Ethan are more than welcome to visit while I am away - I have several excellent collaborators who can guide the visit.

Please let me know when they would like to come.

All the best

Andrew

Andrew –

Marc Garland and Ethan Balkin would like to plan a trip to JLAB (see below) to visit LERF and VCU. Can you help me coordinate their visit to both JLAB and VCU? Marc and Ethan are considering the first two weeks of June. Would this be feasible? If that doesn’t work, please let me know what does work for JLAB and VCU – I will work around that to find something that works for Marc and Ethan.

Thanks!

Yes, they should get in touch with Andrew Hutton. And Andrew can coordinate with VCU as well.

Perfect. Is there someone they should work with at Jlab and VCU in setting up their visit? They were just talking about a potential trip a couple days ago.

Dear Jehanne,
In follow up to our meeting last week, the attached (very short) document explains the situation in LERF w.r.t. LCLSII and potential isotope work. The bottom line is that the two activities are compatible and we still have the ability to run beam and proceed as the proposal outlined.

We would really welcome a visit from your isotope program management to show the facility and discuss further. They could also see capabilities at VCU on the way back to DC.

I hope you’re staying put with all the wind DC is experiencing. Let me know if you have any questions.
Best,
Stuart
