[Isotope-prod] Photos from 1X & Be Window

Joe Meyers and Mike Beck came up with a way to add a corrector that, I think, might work so we might be able to do the first 5 kW run with that and not have to move the magnet. If this holds up, we could do the magnet move after the 5 kW run. That should give us time to get our ducks in a row.

Hi Steve, I think the process needs to be discussed with all parties involved. Also I would recommend that the drawing/calculations are checked before we do anything.
What is the timeline for this work.

Neil,

I agree that at least the power leads and probably the water hoses will have to be removed. The 2F03 corrector will also have to be removed to get at the flange upstream of the magnet. So this will have to be coordinated with DC Power, S&A, and the vacuum and rigging folks. We do have very good measurements of the current position of the magnet from S&A and Joe has measured the current cartridge offsets. We would want to move the holes more than 27 mm to reduce the cartridge offsets to close to zero. After that the magnet would have to be realigned by S&A and then the vacuum chamber would get made up. I was unable to see any vacuum chamber interferences that would prevent it from moving upstream in the magnet. It looks like it moves away from interferences.

I agree with Kevin, the A Frame should fit. However, there are some interferences that will need to be removed which may require partial disassembly of the dipole.

Something to consider - One of the cartridge caps appears to be at its maximum adjustment, it would be prudent to do some preliminary S&A checks. Measure the real location of the dipole and cartridge locations, then use that information to locate the new cartridge holes. This would minimize the risk of an error.

Hi All,

Here are a few shots of the dipole in question and the vacuum window. The dipole support plate looks as if the is sufficient space to cut new holes for the alignment cartridges. Neil will comment on rigging the magnet.

The window change is tight quarters but there is 6” - 8” behind the flange bolts to the back of the shield wall - tight but doable. No space fro clean hood though...

Stay safe,

Kevin
