Good afternoon,

This week's scorecards were delayed while we found a reasonable solution on how to handle the matches that had not completed all nine holes. Two groups were only able to complete 7 holes before the bottom fell out of the sky. There are provisions in the league rules for rain shortened events and when to consider the round as "completed". Either the league has to complete 8 holes OR (provision 1) 75% of the league has to finish the round with no more than half of a team not finishing the round. Unfortunately we didn't meet either of those criteria for a complete round. 4 out of the 6 groups completed 9 holes (66%). This left us facing another rainout when most of the league's round was complete. So we put our heads together and worked with the rules committee to find a solution that will be implemented moving forward.

A summary of the change used to finalize the scores is below:

  1. Match Completion:

     * For a match to be counted, at least 6 holes must be played.

     * If fewer than 6 holes are completed, the match is considered rained out and is not counted.

  1. Scoring After 6 Holes:

     * For any remaining holes, each player is given a score based on their handicap to result in a tie.

     *
Each player receives 1 point per remaining hole.

     *

  1.
Par and Stroke Adjustment After 6 Holes:

     * For any remaining holes, the low handicap player receives par for each hole.
     * The higher handicap player’s score is adjusted based on their stroke differential to result in a tie.

In this case holes 8 & 9 were filled in with par scores except where the higher handicap player was owed a stroke. When a player was owed a stroke an additional stroke was added to the higher handicapper until their score resulted in a tie. In each case the players needing the final holes filled in tied their opponent. This added 4 points total to each of the affected teams which ensured each match now had the max possible points awarded. This is important so that a team's total seasonal points are not affected since that is used as one of the tie breakers in the final regular season standings.

The scores are now posted and we are getting the lineups for the last regular season match updated. Captains, if you have not already updated your spreadsheets, please do so before COB tomorrow.

Regards,

Whit
