My understanding is that an unplayable ball, a ball lost in a hazard, and a
lost ball are all controlled by different USGA rules. In particular, an
unplayable ball is a ball you found, you look at where it is sitting, it is
in-bounds, and you say to yourself "no way should I try to hit that ball"
for any number of possible reasons. Since you found it, well, it ain't lost.
