Dear JLGLrs,

There is a change in the scoring rule to speed up play, and it
will cap handicaps slightly.
The Maximum strokes you may take before picking up on a hole is 2 x Par
for each hole.
If you hole out the on the twice par stroke, for example on a par 3
the 6th shot, you may record the 6, if it is not in the hole pick up
and record an X which will be entered by the scorekeeper as a 7 for
handicapping.
The X calls my (the scorekeeper's) attention to the fact that I should
enter th 2 X par + 1 score on the e-card generated by the program.
This differs in the fact that , in years before, we have been using 10
as the maximum and 11 as the default score. Then the maximum score for
a round would have bee 99 for 9 holes. Now it will be 81, or 2*36 + 9.
Some of us, including yours truly, found ourselves in this situation
and were confused yesterday. I will be checking cards for this
correction during the week. This may actually change some of the early
results, which I am still working on.
Remember to think 2 x Par after which you mark an X (7,9,11 are the
three X equivalents while 6,8,10 are scores which
were actually holed out before going over the 2 x Par limit.
This will, in some cases, actually lower a handicap for some of those
new to the game due to lower scores being recorded
for par 3 and par 4 holes (7 out of 9 holes lowered a total of 18
strokes ) so that now your maximum possible recorded score
for a round is 81 instead of 99. I can not remember a 99 but then I
forget much easier now and only remember my sub 50 rounds (very few).
