Subject: JLab computing reductions to save energy

JLab Scientific Computing Users,

In order to save energy and reduce our power bill, JLab's oldest compute, GPU, and MSS tape nodes are being powered down. This is driven by the current government shutdown and budgetary situation. The newest nodes are more energy efficient and remain up, preserving 75% of total capacity. The reduction includes half of the 9q/10q clusters, the oldest half of the experimental physics data analysis cluster, the GTX285 GPU nodes, and the 4 LTO4 data movers. Further reduction in capacity may be required as the government shutdown continues.

Regards,
Sandy Philpott
