Dear All,

Updates for legacy CentOS 6 systems are now underway from 6.5 to 6.9 to support the new /work, and HPC /home and /dist, file servers. All systems in HPC will be paused on Thursday, October 26 at 9am to switch /home and /dist to the new hardware. Data in the /work areas is being relocated by project when ready to switch, rather than during a single cutover, as it is a much larger file system to relocate and requires greater coordination between active projects.

For HPC, qcd12kmi has been updated, and testib and testgpu compute nodes are available. Upgrades continue with qcdgpu now scheduled for Thursday October 26; all 12s and 12k cluster compute nodes will be updated to CentOS 6.9 on Oct 26 as well. (The 10g cluster nodes will also be updated as time permits). In addition to CUDA updates, anaconda 4.4.0 is available via the module command.

The ENP batch farm updates to ifarm1101 and the CentOS 6 farm12 nodes are now scheduled for Thursday, November 2.

Sandy

Subject: [Jlab-scicomp-briefs] JLab SciComp updates begin Oct 17: CentOS 6.9,	CUDA 8, 9

Dear JLab Scientific Computing Users,

Our CentOS 6.5 systems will be updated to CentOS 6.9, to support the new /work fileserver that's ready for production in the coming weeks. glibc remains at version 2.12, with a minor version number increase. This update includes qcdgpu, qcdkmi, 12s, 12k, 10g, and (i)farm CentOS 6 hosts.

In HPC, qcdkmi will be upgraded during the IT maintenance day, Tuesday Oct 17, and nodes in 12s, 12k, and 10g will start updating via a rolling upgrade. qcdgpu will follow on Tuesday Oct 24. The updated batch nodes will initially be configured as testib or testgpu nodes, so that users can confirm transparent functionality on the interactive and batch systems. On Oct 24 the updated nodes will be reconfigured as production.

In the farm, ifarm1101 will be upgraded on Thursday Oct 26, with rolling updates to the remaining CentOS 6 farm12 nodes beginning.

For GPU users, CUDA 8 and 9 is being installed. These new versions will be available via their corresponding module.

Please plan for these necessary updates, and save any needed files from qcdkmi, qcdgpu, and ifarm1101. Direct questions or issues to philpott at jlab.org, 757-269-7152, or via User Support at helpdesk at jlab.org.

Regards,
Sandy
