Certificate Expiration and Renewal

Scientific Computing users should run the following command on an interactive machine prior to January 27th to ensure that they have an up-to-date certificate. This needs to be done to renew certificates created prior to Nov. 11, 2019 that used an expiring certificate authority.

jcert -replace

Farm Upgrade and Auger default Operating System

The farm upgrade from CentOS 7.2 to CentOS 7.7 is nearing completion, and the majority of the farm's CPU resources are now on CentOS 7.7 nodes. As a result, jobs that require the remaining 7.2 nodes will queue longer than 7.7 jobs.

Auger jobs submitted after Tuesday morning, January 21st will default to CentOS 7.7.

To get the shortest wait time in the queue, Auger users may choose to run jobs on without regard to the OS version specifying the Auger OS tag as general, for example:

PROJECT: MyProject
TRACK: MyTrack
OS: general
JOBNAME: MyJob
MEMORY: 300 MB
COMMAND: ls -alF

Jobs that require either centos72 or centos77 should be submitted with the specific OS tag. The more generic centos7 tag is deprecated and is equivalent to centos72.

Interactive Farm Upgrade to CentOS 7.7

On Tuesday, January 21st the ifarm.jlab.org alias will be pointed to CentOS 7.7 hosts only. ifarm1801 will be upgraded to CentOS 7.7. After that change, the interactive farm will consist of ifarm1801 and ifarm1802 running Intel Skylake processors, and ifarm1901 run AMD Epyc "Rome" processors. The older ifarm1401 and ifarm1402 systems will remain at CentOS 7.2 until the farm is completely transitioned, at which point they will be retired.
