The previously announced tape library upgrade was completed Wednesday evening, and all services have been restored.
During the upgrade (but unrelated to it) there was an outage of the Lustre system for experimental physics. Two storage nodes were rebooted and the system recovered. This was the cause of responsiveness problems yesterday morning in /cache and /volatile on farm nodes. A number of farm and ifarm nodes were rebooted to clear follow-on issues in the batch farm.

Subject: [Jlab-scicomp-briefs] Reminder: JLab Planned Tape Library outage next week
On Monday, November 2nd the tape libraries will be idled in preparation for a major upgrade. This will pause jget, jput, jcache, and all tape operations from the Farm and LQCD systems until the upgrade is completed.
On Tuesday, November 3rd the two existing tape libraries will be merged into a single, upgraded tape library and four additional LTO8 tape drives will be installed, bringing the number of LTO8 drives to twenty. This library merger will improve drive utilization and available bandwidth. Because this is a labor-intensive process we expect at least two days of work to rebuild the system.
The earliest projection for having the system online again is close of business Wednesday Nov 4th.
Please schedule any important tape operations in advance of this work. There will be no mechanism to read or write tapes during the upgrade.
Thank you.
