Tuesday November 17th Scientific Computing Maintenance 5pm - 10pm

The CNI/Central Computing file server work for /apps and /site that is scheduled for Tuesday will affect the scientific computing systems. Please Note the following planned outage:

  * Starting on Tuesday at 5:00pm the farm and tape queues will be idled.

  * Between 5pm and 10pm farm, ifarm, and server systems will be rebooted to adapt to the file server change. This will impact most scientific computing services, so interruptions should be expected during this maintenance window

On Tuesday between 8am and 5pm the following changes will be made as part of monthly maintenance:

  * The swif command will be renamed to swif1. This is being done to make unambiguous which version of the SWIF workflow manager is being used.

  * The /mss and the /w/mss automount point will be redirected to a new fileserver and path, mss-nfs:/mss

  * Please Note that any machines with an entry in /etc/fstab will should be changed to use the new path of mss-nfs:/mss. The old fileserver for /mss will be removed on a future maintenance day.

Recent software changes

  * New versions of gcc 8, 9, and 10 have been installed in /apps (for the farm environment) and in /dist (for the LQCD environment).

  * New versions of singularity are being installed in /apps.

  * Module files have been created for these systems. The “module avail” command will show options.
