We are pleased to announce a Virtual Software Carpentry Workshop to teach fundamental research computing skills 13-15 December, 2021 (CERN/Zurich Time Zone). <div class="x_ptW7te" style="margin:0px">Registration opens Monday Dec 3. There is a limit of the registration to 60 persons (registration is moderated but will be a first-come basis unless large experimental imbalances are identified. </div>

and IRIS-HEP (<a href="https://iris-hep.org/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" data-auth="NotApplicable" data-linkindex="3" style="margin:0px">https://iris-hep.org/</a>). </div>

The three day period will cover the fundamentals of: <br>
<br>
1. Unix (e.g. shell, bash and scripting); <br>
2. Git and Github – how to version control your code <br>
3. Python – fundamentals of using the Python language, Jupyter Notebooks <br>
4. Python for analysis – how to combine Python with ROOT to start analyzing data <br>
<br>
The training is aimed at those who are new to HEP and desiring a fast-track to competency with software fundamentals, as well the non-expert self-taught who wish to ensure not have gaps in their knowledge. <br>
<br>
The first two days are covered by The Carpentries (<a href="https://carpentries.org/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" data-auth="NotApplicable" data-linkindex="4" style="margin:0px">https://carpentries.org</a>). The third day will be taught
by tutors who are experts in HEP software. The interactive hands-on sessions led by the tutor will be supported by a number of helpers to ensure all participants are able to follow and understand the material. <br>

The training is virtual via zoom. All participants are expected to attend the whole workshop. <br>

No payment is required for attending this event. </div>
