*The R&D Path Forward for Next Generation Light Sources in the USA
**- report from a DOE-BES workshop.*
Over the past 2 years, DOE-BES has held a series of 10 "Basic Research
Needs" workshops which were summarized in a Grand Challenges document.
That document calls for new tools, among which are new
accelerator-based photon sources, which cannot at present be
constructed. In order to determine a path towards these photon sources,
DOE-BES held an R&D workshop in September 2009. The workshop was
co-chaired by the speaker today and John Corlett, of Lawrence Berkeley
National Lab. This talk will summarize the state-of-the-art of this
field and the recommendations of the workshop.
Note: JLAMP has been guided by this (and other) DOE-BES documents
