"Fundamental Open Questions in Spin Physics" *

There is a long list of open questions and to answer, but a simple one
is "What is particle spin good for?". I will start by giving a few
examples of unexpected intringing observations. Many questions refer to
the nucleon spin puzzle, for example, its quark flavor decomposition or
the gluon contribution and the orbital angular momentum contribution to
the nucleon spin. One must also ask how important is the quark
transversity? I will discuss the effects of non-zero intrinsic
transverse momentum, which remain to be clarified in connection with the
interpretation of large single transverse spin asymmetries.

Upcoming Seminars:

Nov. 25 - Yi Qiang (Duke)
Dec. 4 - Seamus Riordan (UVa)
Dec. 15 - Heidi Schellman (Northwestern)
