"Study of TMDs with transversely polarized targets"
In the study the transverse-spin and transverse-momentum structure of the nucleon single-spin asymmetries (SSAs) serve as an invaluable tool. Since the first observation of surprisingly large SSAs in hadronic collisions, a sizeable SSAs were also observed in semi-inclusive deep inelastic scattering (SIDIS) reactions, which are thought to be related to transverse momentum dependent (TMD) parton distribution function. I will describe the 6 GeV Hall-A transversity experiment (E06-010) which measured these asymmetries for charged hadrons using the polarized 3He target in the SIDIS reaction, and present our recent results covering the valence-x region. I will also discuss plans for future experiments to perform precision measurement of TMDs using polarized targets and the proposed SoLID device in Hall-A. These experiments will cover much wider kinematics in four dimensions (x,Q^2,p_T,z) which is crucial for a more complete understanding of nucleon spin structure.
