/The PANDA detector at the future FAIR facility is one of the main 
experiments focusing on anti-proton induced reactions exploiting the 
storage ring HESR providing a high quality and intensity beam./

/One of the major components of the 4//p//detector systems are both 
calorimeters covering the target and the most forward regions. In the 
latter case, a shashlyk type sampling calorimeter will cover the range 
up to 10 degrees relative to the beam axis. The target region is covered 
by a high resolution crystal calorimeter based on PbWO_4 scintillation 
crystals of high quality. The presentation will give a short overview of 
the whole detector and finally focus in detail on the PWO device, the 
design concept and the expected performance based on a series of test 
experiments with prototypes. The final construction has been started 
already to reach completion in 2018.///
