*Abstract:*
Particle colliders provide unique and diverse opportunities to study the
fundamental laws of physics. With ever increasing energy -- the LHC has
just restarted with impressive collision energy -- we hope to discover
new phenomena that happen at very small distances. At the same time,
low-energy experiments will have to disentangle long-standing puzzles at
nuclear scales, if we want to trust in Quantum Chromodynamics as a
predictive theory of strong nuclear interactions.
Detailed and accurate simulations of Standard-Model phenomena are
indispensable if we want to take advantage of the full wealth of
collider data. This talk will give an introduction to how "complete"
scattering events at particle colliders can be simulated, with emphasis
on an accurate modelling of the strong nuclear force.
