*Abstract*

We illustrate the need and the advantages of a multi-dimensional 
exploration of the structure

of the nucleon, in particular in momentum space. We introduce the 
Transverse Momentum

Distributions (TMDs) as new tools suitable for such exploration. We 
review the current

knowledge of TMDs and the phenomenology of the related azimuthal 
asymmetries, with

reference to the Hall A and C future physics programs. We emphasize the 
possibility of using

these tools to address some open big questions in Hadron Spin Physics 
(like the puzzle of the

proton spin budget), or to search for low-energy footprints of new 
physics beyond the

Standard Model.
