Structure?"</font></b>

The tensor nature of the nucleon-nucleon force has been evident and
understood since the 1930's. But there seemed to be little direct
evidence of this feature of the interaction in the structure of complex
nuclei. In the last decade, systematic trends have emerged showing that
the immutable 'shells' of the shell model can change substantially with
neutron excess. These trends have been shown by Otsuka rather
convincingly to aris from the infuence of the tensor force.<br>
