Coarse Graining Nuclear and Hadron Interactions

Hadronic interactions are explained in terms of meson exchange at
long distances, but require subnuclear degrees of freedom in many
situations of interest. I discuss how with relatively simple
Wilsonian ideas and scale analysis a competitive framework can be
discussed to describe data above the inelastic threshold. We
analyze specifically the pipi and NN interaction up to 3 GeV and
its possible consequences in nuclear physics and short distance
correlations.
