You are invited to Jefferson Lab’s Open House, "A New Era of Science," on Saturday, April 30, 2016.

When: Saturday, April 30, rain or shine, from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. Entry stops at 2 p.m.

Where: 12000 Jefferson Ave, Newport News, VA 23606. No admission fee. Free parking. Enter at the intersection of Jefferson Ave. and Hogan Dr. in Newport News.

What: Explore the U.S. Dept. of Energy’s Jefferson Lab – a world-class research facility. Learn about the kinds of experiments being conducted at the lab (nuclear physics: studying the building blocks of matter that form our universe), superconducting materials, supercomputing, particle accelerators, cryogenics and much more! Exhibits, demonstrations, lectures, tours and hands-on activities will provide a day of fun and learning for families and people of all ages! Many activities and exhibits are geared toward students. Photography and videorecording are welcome.

The event will be spread out over a loop of about two miles and involves walking, stairs and inclined truck ramps. The event will be spread out over a loophandicap accessible. Free shuttle buses will be available to carry visitors between most tour stops. Most areas are handicap accessible. Wear comfortable shoes and sunscreen. Bring cash for refreshments; vendors will be selling snack foods.
