"Fitting Inclusive Structure Functions and Cross Sections: What can
we learn and how can we apply to neutrino cross section modeling?"
Eric Christy
Join Appointment: Jefferson Lab and Hampton University
Abstract:
Inclusive nucleon structure functions are fundamental quantities sensitive to the
internal structure determined by Quantum Chromodynamics. In this talk I will
discuss an effort to provide good fits to the free proton and neutron structure
functions, as well as those bound in nuclei, for unpolarized scattering by electron
beams. I will also discuss how information obtained from electron scattering data
can inform the modeling of neutrino-nucleus cross sections, which are necessary
input for extracting neutrino mass differences and mixing angles from neutrino
oscillation experiments.
