Subject: [EXTERNAL] LCLS-II-HE Leadership Transition
Dear LCLS-II-HE Project Team,
David Fritz will be stepping down as Acting Project Director effective Jan. 31, 2023 and transitioning to a new opportunity outside the laboratory. Arkadiy Klebaner, currently Chief Engineer, will serve as interim Project Director until Greg Hays returns to the role after LCLS-II achieves its Early Finish Milestone.
David first came to SLAC in 2003 as a graduate student conducting experiments with the Sub-Picosecond Pulse Source, a pre-cursor to the LCLS. He formally joined the SLAC team as an employee in 2006 to work on the LCLS Ultrafast Science Instruments (LUSI) project, where he led the development of the X-ray Pump-Probe instrument. Before joining the LCLS-II-HE project, he served in various roles at LCLS – most recently leading the development of the new X-ray instrument suite for LCLS-II.
Arkadiy joined SLAC in June 2022 after serving more than 26 years at Fermilab. A cryogenic engineer by training, he served as Technical Director for the PIP-II Project and was the Associate Division and Cryogenic Sector Head of Fermilab’s Applied Physics and Superconducting Technology Division. He has over a decade of experience managing 413.3B projects and brings a wealth of engineering and design management experience.
Please join me in thanking David for his project leadership this past year and for his significant contributions to both LCLS and SLAC. I wish him well in his future endeavors.
Best regards,
Vitaly Yakimenko
