<h2 style="white-space:nowrap">Statement of Lessons Learned</h2>
<pre>The unauthorized unplugging of computers, that were in use and locked, caused the loss of work in progress, culminating in time required to recreate unsaved work.</pre>
<h2 style="white-space:nowrap">Discussion of Activities</h2>
<pre>Prior to leaving their work station a SRR engineer properly safeguarded (locked with screen saver on) their computer in the “on” position. In their absence, the workstation was moved to another location. This required the computer to be powered off. Instead of locating the SSR engineer to perform a proper power-down sequence, the computer was simply unplugged and relocated. This resulted in the loss of all work performed prior to the last save.</pre>
<h2 style="white-space:nowrap">Analysis</h2>
<pre>The work station was left for an extended period of time without the benefit of an auto back-up, nor the performance of a save.
The work station was deactivated without prior knowledge from the owner, who should have been given warning and an opportunity to power down the equipment.

<h2 style="white-space:nowrap">Recommended Actions</h2>
<pre>Below are the consequences of the above event. They are provided for information and discussion purposes only.
Unsaved work had to be recreated.
This information was shared with work groups as appropriate, including: Managers, Supervisors, and Workers With Routine Access To Computer Work Stations.</pre>

Data that is saved on the home or group areas (on Windows the J: or M: drives) is backed up hourly, daily, weekly, and monthly. </pre>
