Colleagues,
Many of us often have "dumb questions" about the use of root in our
day-to-day work. I recently discovered that there is an email list,
root_list at jlab.org, that we could use to get answers to our questions
from a local user base. The list is currently lightly subscribed to and
rarely used, but I think it would make a convenient forum for these
kinds of questions.
The standard root forums are of course a much richer source of
information, but it can be a significant amount of work to get your
question into a forum-worthy form. Also, if the question is really dumb,
one does not dare even ask. With a local question and answer forum, we
can be much more informal; what is a dumb question or two among friends
anyway?
My real motivation in writing this is to have enough subscribers to the
list so that I can start asking dumb questions, of course!
Let me know what you think, or better yet go ahead and subscribe. You
can do that at the list page:
https://mailman.jlab.org/mailman/listinfo/Root_list .
I've tried to cast this broadly, so sorry in advance for multiple copies
of this message. Also, if there are other lists where this can be
advertised, feel free to forward this.
