Hi Jim,

I believe so, since we have been talking about doing that all along (carbon infused nylon or something like that), but the best person to comment on that is probably Wouter.

Hi Jim,

Yes, for next prototype we want it to be black and printed from radiation hard material.

This was printed with the material that was being used here already and should be considered a first assembly test. For that purpose this was ideal, since we were able to identify some issues
with the design that we need to address. Thanks to Wouter pushing the purchase of so much new equipment here, through the faculty no less, we should be in a position to turn out the next prototypes pretty rapidly, over the summer,
until we have something that works really well. It is very useful, even if we end up deciding to have it machined from aluminum in the end.

Hello,

Nafis and I put together the first full scale Ring 5 prototype this
afternoon (see attached figures). The entire mounting structure is 3D
printed and the quartz and light guide are installed, and we test fitted
the PMT.
The structural integrity is very good, even though we did not use a
particularly special (say carbon fiber infused) material. We will be
improving several things we noticed, which made the assembly cumbersome
and which would eventually improve the light tightening.

Regards,
