Dear NPWG members,
As you know, we have now the possibility to submit CLAS12 simulation
offsite, either using OSG resources opportunistically or dedicated
resources allocated by Collaborating Institutions. So far, access to these
resources has been opened to all Collaborators with no priorities or
constraints. However, considering the efforts that will go in the next
months towards getting first publications and the fact that resources are
still limited, we need to make sure these resources will be utilized in the
most effective and efficient way to support the analysis that are
candidates for first publications.
To address this from the technical point of view, a priority system has
been put in place: this allows to give higher priority to specific user
accounts that would therefore have a larger share of the available
resources. This should be accompanied by an “administrative” process to
determine what simulations tasks should be given this high priority. After
discussing within the Software Group and the Coordinating Committee, we
think that a way to handle this could be to have collaborators, responsible
for a specific analysis, submitting a request according to the attached
form that would need to be approved by the relevant PWGs for what concerns
the physics and analysis aspects (event generator, kinematics, statistics,
…) and by the Software Group for what concerns the computing resources (CPI
hours, disk space, …). The CCC would be notified as well to make sure all
WG chairs are informed and could address possible conflicts arising from
multiple requests.
Since this process is entirely new, it will be presented tomorrow at the
Collaboration meeting to gather feedback. Meanwhile, we wanted to give you
advanced notice this is being put in place so that you can start
discussing your
simulation whitin your Run Group.
Best,
Lamiaa
(On behalf of CCC & Software Group)
