Strong thunderstorms are moving across Newport News and adjacent
cities/counties and will continue to be a threat throughout the
afternoon and evening. These storms are moving at about 30 mph and
accompanied by dangerous lightning and occasional high winds -- gusts up
to 40 mph.

Please take extra care as you drive home this evening as thunderstorms
pass through the area; heavy rain can create ponding and water running
across road surfaces.

The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning
for Southside; the storms are headed this way.

If you hear thunder you are close enough to be struck by lightning.
Move to a safe shelter before storms reach your area. Remain indoors
until the storms have passed.
