City of Newport News Mayor McKinley Price and his staff are holding a
special information session for the members of four city elected and
appointed committees, invited guests and the public in the CEBAF Center
(CC) auditorium on Tuesday, March 31. The information session is
scheduled to start at 9 a.m. and should conclude by 11 a.m.

City staff and guest speakers will begin arriving around 7:30 a.m.
Parking in the lot adjacent to (east of) CC could experience congestion
between 8 a.m. and noon. Should the lot fill up, overflow parking will
be available in the Bldg. 90 (EEL) parking lot and in the lot running
between CC and the Support Service Center, Bldg. 28.

The CC lobby could be congested at times between 8-9 a.m. and
10:45-11:15 a.m.

Jerry Draayer, SURA president and CEO and Jefferson Science Associates
board vice chair, will welcome the audience to the lab and provide a
brief overview of the Southeastern Universities Research Association.

He will be followed by Lab Director Hugh Montgomery, who will provide a
Jefferson Lab update to include information about a proposed
Electron-Ion Collider that could be built in the future. Jefferson Lab
and Brookhaven National Lab are both interested in becoming the home to
such a facility, should the U.S. Department of Energy approve the need
and funding for it.

Guest speakers Guru Ghosch, Virginia Tech vice president for Outreach
and International Affairs, and Joe Meredith, Virginia Tech Corporate
Research Center president, will then discuss plans for the Tech Center
adjacent to JLab.

City staff and members of the city committees will be provided with a
one-hour tour of the lab after the meeting. The tour buses will be
staged outside the CC doors leading to Quark Cafe (at the south end of
the parking lot between CC and the SSC).
