[Pansophy] New Hire: Allen Samuels and Students coming onboard

Hmm - it was my understanding that you guys used a Perl script to strip out all the MS Word markup. I went looking and found the old Perl script:
M:\asd\www\pansophydev\html\travelers2012dev\convert\travelerization.pl

Do you guys not use this anymore and do it all by hand w/ Dreamweaver?

I remember trying to find a better way to do it myself, which I ended up doing with a CFM file, a Perl script and some Java classes. That CFM file is here:
M:\asd\www\pansophydev\html\pansophydev17\Travelers\create_traveler.cfm

That CF file doesn't work anymore it seems because the database's the old pansophydev17 directory reference no longer exist but if you go digging, you will find that it referenced a Perl script (which had been moved so I had to dig around to find it):
M:\asd\www\pansophydev\html\travelers2012dev\convertOLD\convert_word_to_html

This Perl script actually handed the conversion process off to a Java class:
M:\asd\www\pansophydev\html\travelers2012dev\convertOLD\java-poi\WordToHTML.class

I would imagine that none of this stuff works anymore, but it was my attempt in 2014 to automate the conversion process better....

Thank you Bobby!

You are right... I forgot about just getting eclipse and the extension. I will start with that and go from there for the students.
As for Dreamweaver... we use it to strip out all the MSWord markup that is produced when a Traveler is written.
It's the only thing we found that does a decent job and doesn't require us uploading to some website. We are working on creating our own version but have not had a chance to work on it. If you know of a good "MSWord cleaner", please let us know.

As a side note:
Mike is still working on the CFGRID for CF2018. The links were not working. He has found a way to recreate by string concatenating the URL, but it is taking a very long time to run. We are trying to detect where the slow down is occurring to see if we can find a faster way. I was wondering if the new Performance Monitoring tool could give us some insight into this problem? Do we have that installed on our servers so that we can activate it and watch for the slow down in processing?
Please advise.

Thanks again for all your help.
I hope you and your family are safe and healthy!

Valerie

P.S. I have a doc appt soon so I'll check back on this when I return.

...I'm just going to sit over here and nod like I know what you all are talking about! Seriously, do let me know if there is anything I can do to assist. Thank you both for your investment in the students.

Do you have an account on the Adobe licensing website? https://licensing.adobe.com<https://licensing.adobe.com/>
That is where you can download all of the products we are licensed for and get the serial numbers. I just added you as a contact for our account so it should give you access. If you can't get access, this is the license key for CFBuilder: 1422-5004-6778-3298-8660-3223
If you need me to download it, you'll have to tell me exactly which version you need.

That being said, you don't need CFBuilder for development....I personally don't even use an IDE for CF...I just use Notepad++. Also, CFBuilder is essentially an Eclipse install with a custom plugin developed by Adobe. You can achieve the same thing from what I understand with the vanilla Eclipse IDE (free to download and install):
https://www.eclipse.org/downloads/packages/

and the "CFEclipse" plugin:
https://github.com/cfeclipse/cfeclipse/wiki/Installing-CFEclipse

Neither of these require a license from Adobe.
I'm not sure what to tell you about Dreamweaver. That product is not part of our current license. From what I can tell, the last time we purchased a license for that was 2012. But just like CFBuilder, there are tons of free options available that I would try. You mentioned that it is "part of your conversion process" though. What exactly does this mean?

Bobby,

We have 4 new people coming onboard this month and I'm not sure what we can do and what we need from you.

College Students starting today
An Nguyen
Enqian Zheng

Both are remote users for this semester only (through December) and live on the west coast.
The will be building the new SamTraxs II system for Pansophy (SRF R&D) and Thin Films and Surface Analysis system supporting Charlie Reece's group.
We have 2 computers setup for them by Erik (SRFSTUDENT2 and SRFSTUDENT3).
We will need to get CFBuilder installed. I don't recall how many licenses we have, I think 4?, but Megan and/or I can give up ours if needed for their use.
Please let us know what we need to do and if an separate incident report needs to be started for them.

New Employee Documentation Coordinator (Allen Samuels) starting Sep 16th
He has an incident report starting already that Jessica is working on. You may be contacted by her for the requirements.
He will be learning Megan's job so he will need the same accesses and privileges that she requires. (incident INC0029636)
My concern here is we are still dependent on CS6 Dreamweaver for part of our conversion process, so we need to get that installed.
We should still have a license for him to use.

Please let me know how I should proceed.
Thank You.
Stay safe and healthy!
