Allen,

Great to hear! Yes we can setup a meeting with Megan this afternoon to get you started.
I guess one of the first things you need to do is get remoted into your machine at jlab. You should then have access to all the MSOffice products we have. We use outlook for our email and calendar. I will put some standard project meetings on your calendar. No, I don’t expect you to know or understand what all is going on, but I do want to introduce you to people and let you listen in.
The second thing is to setup Teams. We use that every day. It is our way of quickly chatting with each other throughout the day without waiting on email and where we meet weekly to go over work.
Please let me know if there is something you need at home to do your work and we can work on getting what you need. Basically a camera, microphone and speakers is all we really use. If you have those then you are all set!
I will start sending you information via you jlab user account so look there for more information.

Valerie,

Thank you very much. I will put 8 hours in for yesterday then. My internet is finally working, thanks for asking. As it would turn out, the connection port was in the kitchen of all places. I’ll need to be careful moving chairs around so I don’t knock it over, but I’m just glad I can be productive again.
I still need to complete GEN101, as it wouldn’t let me load the slideshow earlier. It seems to be working now, so I’ll go ahead and finish that after this morning’s orientation. After that, unless there’s any other training or setup I learn about today, I think I will be good to go. Would you be able to meet some time this afternoon to discuss what I need to do next?

Good Morning Allen,

Hopefully your internet is working today😀.
You should be full-time now, even if that is setting up your internet, computers, training, etc. So 8 hours a day.
You have a choice in your hours (flex-time). Megan and Mike work 7 am - 4 pm and I work 8 am - 5 pm. Megan works a 8-9's and 1-8 hour days with every other friday off. Mike, who's main job is inventory, works in the office M-W-F and at home on T-Th. You will be working remotely full-time. Hopefully, sometime in the future you will actually be able to go on-site and see some of the awesome stuff we do in SRF. In the meantime I will try to find some ways you can see the lab and talk to the people you will be working with (Maybe Anne can do a walk around with her camera? lol).

Your first priority is to get your training done and get the computer setup. We have a computer for you on-site called 'srfsamuels'. Jessica Perry should be able to help you get log into that machine through Remote-Desktop. We still need to get some software installed on the machine, but all in due time.

If you have any questions, please reach out to myself or any member of the team. Megan is looking forward to meeting with you and teaching you about our system.

Let us know when you would like to meet and we will get you started.

Valerie,

During the check-in this afternoon, the question came up of what we should put into our time sheet for today, considering how orientation makes the hours a bit different. We were told to talk to our supervisor for an answer. I was wondering how you think I should approach this. Also, considering I didn’t work on Monday or Tuesday, will I need to make up those hours in some way before the end of the pay period?
