Anne,

This revision is already out for approval. I checked the routing, and the new approval names have been fixed. Unless a new revision has come in since the 13th, all is well.

Allen

Apologies, here is the updated traveler draft; there was one more correction that needed to be made.
Thanks again,

Hello Michelle

Thanks for getting back

I would appreciate if the section on Calibration could be deleted - so please update the traveler. ISO had not yet been rolled out when this was added (I don't recall being asked about it either ) .Later we were told verbally to ignore this section that it was a "pilot" and an experiment . However starting this month ISO Internal audits are being done, so sooner or later this section if left as written will end up in findings (there are a lot of issues with how it was written in the traveler .) In my opinion it would be best to take it out until such time as it is clear how calibration in travelers is to be handled . The latest is that its only to be a reminder that calibrated tools are to be used .

Also, If you want any of these 4 to have CMM then this should be added to the traveler - the traveler is quite specific about which SN are to have CMM

Thanks Anne

Hi Anne,
Matt and I discussed the tophat traveler and here are some answers to your questions.

  1. This issue was with the tophat bellows, not the tophats, and was a problem due to incorrect machining on the vendor's part. We don't anticipate having this problem with CM #8 parts.
  2. This is mentioned in the traveler, it specifies not to use stainless steel bolts and to use silicone or other materials instead.
  3. The tool SNs section in the traveler is something that could be revised in the future, but since we're only inspecting 4 more tophats it might not be imperative to do right now. Only one tophat needs to be dimensionally inspected for CM 8. If you feel that this is especially important to change please let me know and Matt and I will discuss again.
  4. Again, there are only 4 tophats for CM 8 that need visual inspection and only one will need CMM.
  5. If it's necessary for the traveler to be revised I will change the author to myself and add Earl as a reviewer.
Please let me know if you have any follow up questions or concerns; I appreciate your suggestions and input.
Thanks,
Michelle

Hi Michelle

I had meant to address this to yourself, not to Earl - my apologizes . Please let me know if you need help or have questions

Anne
____________________________________________________________________________________________
The PPU top hat inspections (4 new parts - for the now planned 8th CM ) are not going to get started likely for weeks as we have a very big back log of higher priority parts to inspect

so I am thinking it would be a good opportunity make a traveler update to clean up some of the issues from the first lot , for yourself or anyone who might try to order or inspect these parts in future

Some of the questions to consider

  1. There was a drawing issue or traveler issue where the holes were specified opposite of what actually arrived (thru holes or not) - this problem will continue to generate NCRs on future lots until the paperwork gets corrected.

  1. Earl had ordered plastic bolts for some of the checks - likely not mentioned in the travelers, so a new person would not know to do this

  1. Although 100% of the tools in the CMM room are in calibration (done annually, recorded in a register ) , the traveler had included as a "pilot" to record SN for at least one of the tools used to check the part (does not say which one) - I am personally opposed to the inspectors having to spend time recording SN for tools in each the traveler , but there are others here at JLAB that think these additional records are a "value add" . So assuming we continue to include acknowledgement of calibration in the travelers, suggest you use the same approach as Naeem in SNSPPU-INSP-TPHTB R2 , which does not require SN , but includes just a reminder to use a calibrated tools for measurements . The option being to include YES/No boxes as Naeem has done (with the risk that someone will forget to check the box - and generate Audit findings + Corrective action report requirements )

  1. PPU added an 8th CM to the build , The sampling plan is extremely specific, and did not consider anything after the first lot - likely a visual check is fine - but something to consider especially if you order more parts

  1. Consider changing the author from Matt to yourself

  1. Maybe other issues also

I would also propose to add Earl as the reviewer since he and Jerry did all of the inspections to date (Jerry is no longer doing inspections, returned to the machine shop)

Could you let us know if these revisions are possible ? Please let me know if you need any help

Thanks Anne

(8th CM is on a different set of Charge codes also , for the Top Hat its P8FCAP)
