[Pansophy] L2HE CAVSNs

All,

I have generated a new report that shows the cavity specifications for HE. I know that the cavities listed in the report already are refurbished cavities that are coming from the L2PRD project and that some have been renamed with a preceding "HE-". This is causing some concern for me with traceability and with the new cavities that will come in, with I imagine the same "HE-" and the cavities numbers starting at 001. With this, we will run into duplicate names (HE-040 as the cavity from L2PRD and HE-040 as the new cavity for L2HE). I know that the HE was added for the planning meetings but I also know that the cavities from L2PRD are inscribed as "0040". If a cavity with the SN "HE-0040" comes in through inventory, the system will not allow us to "receive" it as it will be a duplicate. Changing the name to something different from what is inscribed on the component will cause confusion in other work centers (chemistry, assembly, etc), as that will not match what is in the dropdown.

As some may recall, we ran into some issues with traceability towards the end of L2PRD. We should maintain the same serial number that a component has been named throughout the 2 projects, so in the future, or present, when datamining is needed to see what processes the cavity has gone through, we have some sort of continuity between projects, especially when using the Serial Number Search which will show every traveler a cavity has been selected in, even across multiple projects.

I am proposing that the cavities that are from L2PRD, that have been renamed only in the database, should have the serial number dropdowns in the database match what is inscribed on the cavity to maintain traceability of that cavity and to avoid any future duplicate names or confusion.

Thanks,

Megan

OK. So John's plan (attached again) and Katherine's detail explanation appear to set the path forward.

All agreed?

Thanks,
John

Subject: Re: L2HE CAVSNs

For LCLS-II, Mike used a 4-digit serial number (for example, 0238).

I think we need to distinguish between the name used in Kirk's SRF scheduling spreadsheet, and the name used in Pansophy/Primes. Kirk typically identifies the cavities by project, vendor, number of cells, etc to help everyone keep them straight, and because we have multiple cavities with the same serial number. Thus Primes has a cavity called 086 that Kirk calls C100-RI-086.

So what we're discussing here is what goes in Primes & Pansophy. Understandably, Mike doesn't want this to be too different from what is stamped on the cavities. I also think it is useful to flag the cavities with the project name in Primes. I count five different cavities with SN 015 currently in circulation. I notice PPU is calling their cavities PPU08, etc.

The serial number engraved on the cavities should be (per SLAC) "CAVR026" (for example). So if we put the project name in front of it to distinguish it from the other cavities with the same serial number, we get HE-CAVR026.

So basically what John V said already in his cavity naming document, but with more detail...

Katherine

Mike,

I appreciate you sharing your concerns. I think I understand and agree with the intent and plan for the "HETRANSFER" PO. I am not as clear on the naming convention and need input from John, Tiffany and Katherine.

Thanks,

John

Hi John,

I am very concerned about part traceability with regard to items being transferred from L2PRD to L2HE. In general I would prefer to keep the original 4 digit serial number as-is for historical purposes. However, there appears to be a desire to include additional information in the serial number field. We can enter any designation requested.

For the purposes of maintaining traceability, I plan to use a fictitious P.O. "HETRANSFER", with a statement in the comment box indicating that this part was transferred from the L2PRD project and list the original serial number. This process will create records both in PRIMeS and the L2HE-INV-CAV travelers.

If there are no objections, I will issue the cavities from L2PRD and check them in for L2HE.

Let me know if there are any questions.

Hey Valerie,

Yes and no. They all came in through inventory, some for LCLS II and some now for HE. There was actually a minor mistake in Tiffany's list. It is supposed to be:

- HE-CAVR009

- HE-CAV0040

- HE-CAV0295

- HE-CAV0331

- HE-CAV0351

On the cavities themselves, you'll only find the digits - including the R for the new ones. Mike has and will enter these cavities into the system only with the CAVSN i.e. 0040. However, the ones mentioned above should be available in the L2HE drop down menus with the corresponding numbers. Actually, I don't mind if you leave them as just "0040" - the HE is mostly required for the schedule and at other locations where they need to be distinguished from other projects.

So, if you want to be on the safe side, make them HE-XXXX here to.

Cheers,

John

Tiffany,

Did these cavities come through inventory? If so, then they were put into Pansophy with original serial numbers.

Are these new numbers going to be inscribed on the parts?

Can you please verify the following HE cavities are loaded into the Pansophy system with the updated naming convention and available in the L2HE traveler CAVSN dropdowns? We will be processing HE-CAVR009 this week and need to be able to fill out travelers for it.

- HE-CAVR009

- HE-CAV040

- HE-CAV295

- HE-CAV331

- HE-CAV351

Thank you,

Tiffany Ganey
